Abstract


Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate difference in caries prevention effect and tooth fluorosis between fluo-ridated area and unfluoridated area in regards to water fluoridation business which is one of dental caries prevention pro-gram of Anseong, Gyeonggi.

Methods: The authors conducted oral examination and questionnaire study to middle school students (12 years old) and high school students (15 years old), and statistics of dental caries experience and fluorosis index result were caculated and analyzed.

Results: Decayed, missing, or filled permanent teeth (DMFT) index in middle school student (12 years old) according to gen-der was shown as man 1.74¡¾2.28, woman 1.43¡¾2.26 which was statistically insignificant (p£¾0.05), results according to water fluoridation was shown as unfluoridated 2.03¡¾2.49, fluoridated 1.05¡¾1.93 which was statistically significant (p£¼0.05), and results according to fluoridated water drinking was shown as not drinking 1.88¡¾2.48, drinking 0.84¡¾1.59 which was statistically significant (p£¼0.05). DMFT index in high school student (15 years old) according to gender was shown as man 2.61¡¾2.58, woman 2.82¡¾2.82 which was statistically insignificant (p£¾0.05), results according to water fluo-ridation was shown as unfluoridated 2.93¡¾2.66, fluoridated 2.53¡¾2.77 which was not statistically significant (p£¾0.05), and results according to fluoridated water drinking was shown as not drinking 2.92¡¾2.78, drinking 2.29¡¾2.52 which was not statistically significant (p£¾0.05).

Conclusion: During the water fluoridation, the preventive effect went up as the time passes and the incidence of mottled tooth did not showed big difference. There water fluoridation for dental caries prevention in Anseong-si should be maintain for the health of Anseong-si residents.
